An important component of the School Year and of our Inquiry programme is community service. The goal is to develop in the students an awareness of and a desire to contribute to the community. It also demonstrates to the students that team effort can make a difference. To this end we involve our pupils each year in an activity to help others.
In the past, children and parents have raised funds for many projects including sinking wells for a village, providing mattresses for Pro Laboure Dei and supporting a Sri Lankan orphanage devastated by a tsunami. Last year we held a Dance-a-thon for two special schools in the city. We would like to continue our community effort this year.
As part of our commitment to develop respect and intercultural understanding in your children, The International School of IITA is implementing a Book Drive as our community service activity this term. We requested your support by donating “pre-loved” or new books so we can help two local primary schools build their own library and share the gift of reading with their students. We plan to donate to Ola Oluwa Primary School and Chosen Continental School at the Idiose community just across IITA campus. We will be visiting their school with your children after our book drive.
We acquired 250 books from our book collection. Well done to our school community in supporting this action and a big thank you to Mrs. Okungbowa and Mrs. Gonzales for facilitating the first steps of the Community Service. Step 2 next!
